Taking
Democracy to Scale | Bulletin No.
1, May 18,
2002 ------------------------------------
-----------------------------------
Dear folks,
Several
post-conference streams of follow-on work are occurring at present. To
help spread the knowledge AmericaSpeaks will send out, from time to time, an
email digest of the status of new and evolving projects from ‘Taking
Democracy to Scale.’
Please feel free to submit synopses of your post-conference work (especially
stories of collaboration and new partnerships); we’d be glad to
spread the word!
Sincerely,
Carolyn

GroupJazz Conferencing Site --
------------------------------------
Amy and Peter Ladd of GroupJazz have been working furiously to build a
discussion area on the web where Working Groups can continue the work they began
at ‘Taking Democracy to
Scale.’
Please watch
your email boxes Monday, May 20 for your username and password as well as a set
of brief instructions. When you have received notice of your user
activation, please take a moment to logon for the first time, sign the welcome
book in the ‘Big Tent’ and look
around.
Thank you Amy, Peter
and GroupJazz!

Consortium Group Mission
Statement --
--------------------------------------------------
To promote a clear, consistent message to the public, the members of the
Consortium group have developed a mission statement. Please take a moment
to review and
comment.
Mission.
The Consortium recognizes and
supports the nascent, broad-based movement to promote and institutionalize
deliberative democracy at all levels in the United States and around the
world.
The Consortium’s
purpose is to further the growth and success of this movement by developing
relevant theory and innovative practices of deliberative democracy at the
national level and nation-wide.
The work of the Consortium includes research, design and experimentation;
dissemination of results; collaboration within the field; fundraising; and
increasing the credibility and visibility of the deliberative democracy movement
in the U.S. and around the
world.

Inclusion and Diversity --
-------------------------------
The Consortium Goup values and takes very seriously the pointed observation that
any effort to legitimately promote deliberative democracy must be representative
of the diversity of the United
States.
Please recommend to
the Consortium Advisory and Steering Committees those practitioners who can
broaden the perspective and composition of our effort. Once the GroupJazz
site is live, you will be able to post recommendations within the Consortium
discussion area.
