The DDC, Grassroots Grantmakers, and NeighborWorks America are pleased to announce the release of "The Promise and Challenge of Neighborhood Democracy: Lessons from the Intersection of Government and Community." The report can be downloaded free from the DDC Resource Page.
This report grew out of a meeting that Grassroots Grantmakers and the Deliberative Democracy Consortium organized in Orlando last fall with help from the National League of Cities and NeighborWorks America. The discussion focused on lessons from Portland, Minneapolis, Los Angeles and other cities that have experimented with creative ways to engage citizens in public decision-making and problem solving.

The growth of democratic governance has been a grassroots phenomenon. The promise of the Democracy Helpline, a project of the Deliberative Democracy Consortium and its Partners, is to enable a broader array of people to make use of these powerful democratic strategies and principles.
